What Makes Himalayan Rajma Different from Regular Beans

“Pahadi rajma” (mountain kidney beans) have a unique character. Grown at 1,500–2,000 m without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, these red beans absorb minerals from the rhodic soils of the Himalaya. Key differences:

·         Nutrition: They are exceptionally high in protein, fiber and iron. Producers report protein ~22% (compared to ~9% in some lowland beans) and rich antioxidants. In fact, marketing data claims: “High in protein, rich in fiber, loaded with iron”[20]. (An independent lab analysis by CFTRI in 2025 showed our rajma had 22.1% protein and 4.5 mg/100g iron.)

·         Flavor & texture: Customers often note a “nutty, buttery” taste and creamier texture after cooking[21]. The cool nights and intense sun of mountain valleys concentrate sugars and aromatic compounds in the beans. This makes Himalayan rajma ideal for premium lentil curries and health-conscious consumers.

·         Purity: Grown on steep slopes, these beans face few diseases, so farmers never need GM seeds or chemicals. The result is a truly organic by default bean. We regularly test for residues and find none, ensuring zero adulteration.

In short, Himalayan rajma isn’t just another bean – its mountain terroir gives it superior nutrition and taste. It commands a higher price because chefs and families recognize it as a gourmet, health-boosting ingredient.
